Northern timber

Our timber sourcing area extends on both sides of the Arctic Circle. According to forestry experts, this region produces the best timber raw material available in Finland for construction purposes.

Log construction builders value northern timber because it has an exceptionally high proportion of heartwood, from which durable, rot-resistant logs are made. We use the same timber to construct the strong roof structures for our buildings.

Our cooperation partner Pölkky Oy, which is a family-run business from Kuusamo, processes and delivers the raw materials for our production. This Finnish wood-processing company is the first to have been issued the international PEFC certificate. The requirements for being issued the certificate include that the wood raw material used in processing has been acquired from certified forests and that the origin of the wood can be verified at any time.

Every log that arrives at our sawmills is unique. To ensure consistent and high quality, the raw material to be processed is graded, and the most suitable timber is selected for each part of the log house.

To ensure there is a sufficient supply of high-quality raw material suitable for log construction, log house production requires large quantities of raw material. The growth of Kuusamo Log Houses and the maintenance of its top quality have been made possible by our raw material supplier, Pölkky Oy, which processes an average of 120 full trailer loads of sawn timber every working day.
