Stig and Viola Gunnar live in a small village near Vaasa. In 2004, the retired couple bought a cottage by the sea, which they originally intended to renovate. However, as the renovation would have been so extensive and costly, they decided to build a new cottage on the site – and over time, their plans evolved into a year-round home. Now the couple are able to enjoy their retirement in their home from Kuusamo Log Houses’ Nuuna models.
A sandy track winds through the forest, and along it stands the Gunnars’ impressive log house. The house is from Kuusamo Log Houses’ Nuuna range, which the Gunnars discovered at the Seinäjoki Housing Fair.
– This is the house of my dreams. When I stepped inside the Nuuna house in Seinäjoki and saw the light, the windows and the absolutely stunning interior, I immediately saw myself living in that house, Viola describes.

The cottage was transformed into a year-round home
Initially, the couple had planned to build a new cottage on the plot, but ended up building a year-round home there instead.
– The house was originally designed as a cottage, but Christer “Nuunapappa” Östman from Kuusamo Log Houses was able to accommodate our changes and everything worked out really well, Stig recalls.
The Gunnars say they enjoy pottering about in the heart of nature.
– We enjoy it so much here that we hardly ever need to go anywhere. We potter about doing all sorts of things, and next we’re going to start tidying up the garden and building a small garage, Stig lists.
– I don’t even want to go to Thailand in the winter anymore; we’re so happy here, Viola continues with a smile.

The delivery went smoothly
The building project went smoothly. The logs were delivered to the site in January, and we were able to move into our new home in July. Stig and Viola note that there are always minor issues during the construction phase, such as missing small parts. However, these issues were resolved efficiently, and overall the delivery went extremely well.
– I wouldn’t mind starting the whole process all over again, it all went so well, Viola laughs.
